10 Rustic Bathroom Decor Ideas You’ll Love

Like it or not, we spend a heck of a lot of time in the bathroom.

First thing in the morning, several times throughout the day, last thing at night before going to bed. Needless to say, it’s a high-traffic area in the home.

If you’re going to spend that much time in there, might as well make it a pleasant experience, right? And what better way than to incorporate beautiful decor items?

If you’re looking to give your bathroom a little facelift, here are 10 rustic bathroom decor ideas you’ll love.

1. Open shelves

Open wall shelves look beautiful in a kitchen, and they look just as good in a bathroom.

You can install open shelves above your toilet since that is the area that is most likely to have the most free vertical space in your bathroom. 2-3 shelves will suffice, and you can decorate them however you want.

Installing shelves, especially ones that are stained a natural brown color, is a great rustic bathroom decor idea that will add visual interest to the space.

2. Wire basket for toilet paper

Another great rustic bathroom decor idea is a wire basket to hold extra toilet paper.

You can place it on top of your open shelves, and since it’s right above the toilet, it’ll be easy to reach should you or your guests need more toilet paper.

Getting one with metal wires and a wooden trim will give it a more rustic feel. Most home decor stores such as HomeSense (or HomeGoods in the U.S.) will sell these types of baskets for fairly cheap.

3. Books

I know what you’re thinking – books and moisture don’t go well together.

If I didn’t know any better, I’d completely agree with you, except that I’ve been using three hardcover books as rustic bathroom decor for the past two years and they’re still perfectly intact.

My advice is to use books you don’t really care that much about just in case. I used ones that had beautiful, natural colors once the sleeves were removed, and they look awesome on my bathroom shelves.

4. Hexagon tile backsplash

There’s just something about a hexagon tile that I can’t quite resist.

I regret not having installed hexagon tiles on my bathroom floor, but I compensated by installing a hexagon tile backsplash on the wall behind my sink.

Hexagon tiles, especially combined with dark grout, give a beautiful rustic look to any bathroom. They’re very easy to install yourself, or you can get a professional to do it for you.

5. Amber glass soap dispenser

This is probably the easiest and cheapest way to add a little rustic flare to your bathroom.

Buy an amber glass soap dispenser, fill it with your favorite soap, and there you have it. These glass dispensers are beautiful, chic and relatively cheap.

I bought mine from HomeSense – it was already filled with soap and I simply removed the label and continued to refill it when it ran out.

6. Bamboo toothbrush

The issue of plastic waste is becoming more and more urgent, and we all need to do our part to save the planet.

Even though switching from a plastic toothbrush to a bamboo one doesn’t seem like it’ll make much of a difference, every effort, no matter how small, counts.

And the great thing about a bamboo toothbrush is that it’s a nice addition to your rustic bathroom decor. It’ll fit right in, it’s biodegradable, and let’s face it, it’s way prettier than those ugly plastic ones you’re currently using.

7. Ladder towel rack

If you’ve got the vertical space for it, a wooden ladder towel rack is a creative way to add storage to your bathroom.

You can use it to hang your bath towels, hand towels, and other accessories. It’s both useful and beautiful, and it doesn’t take up much floor space.

8. Scent diffuser

Who doesn’t like a good scent diffuser to mask the smell of poo?

All jokes aside (am I really joking though?), scent diffusers are awesome bathroom accessories. They look and smell good, and in my experience, they last quite a long time.

You can place one on top of your toilet tank, on your wall shelves, or next to your sink. You can even buy one with brown sticks for a more rustic look.

9. Black matte towel hooks

Black matte metal goes hand in hand with rustic bathroom decor, especially when paired with other wooden accessories.

A cheap and functional way to include black matte in your bathroom is to get black matte towel hooks. You can install them behind your bathroom door as that is otherwise wasted space, and you can even install a hook right beside your shower so it’s easier to grab your towel when you’re ready to get out.

10. Plants

If you’re lucky enough to have a window in your bathroom, you can decorate it with a plant or two. You can either put them on your shelves or in a corner on the floor.

If you do not have a window, you can get an artificial plant instead. I know it’s not ideal, but it’s your best option. And there are some good quality ones at IKEA that are viable options (I love this one).
